How the drone build calculator works

Pick a frame size, motors, battery and camera. The calculator adds up typical part weights to get the all-up weight, compares it with the combined thrust of four motors, and estimates hover time from the battery's usable energy. It also flags combinations that don't match, like small motors on a big frame.

What thrust-to-weight ratio do you need?

  • 8:1 or more: freestyle and racing, fast and aggressive.
  • 5:1 to 8:1: all-round flying with good control.
  • 3:1 to 5:1: cinematic and long-range cruising, more efficient.
  • Under 2:1: too heavy. Lighten the build or use bigger motors.
